Unique MDT feature reveals major improvement on bismuth plugs ability to seal in downhole conditions.
Optimizing the MDT drill bit design has been a key factor to the successful results achieved from the very start of the project, and this important work is still ongoing.
A project was initiated late 2019 investigating possibilities to adjust the drillbit design with the aim of changing the geometry of the drilled holes. The goal was to increase casing to metal sealing for metal alloys, such as bismuth, and thereby achieving higher differential pressure rating.
Custom made drillbits for this purpose has been developed, qualified and tested with very promising results. The new drillbit design is now available as an option to the MDT offering.
